The painter's muse

The Painter

A sad pirate drinking song – enjoy!

I’ll paint you a portrait and sail for the sun
When asked of my job I reply I have none
I’m a student of fancy and scholar of whim
Ask where I go I’ll tell you where I’ve been.

I remember the day it was wet when I left
It’d seem simple tears would not leave Ma content
So the sky opened up and it poured and it poured
And when the clouds rolled away still my mother cried more.

Now I fancied myself quite the gentleman
And I found me a lady in e’ry different land
And I thought myself grown but found such to be jest
Cause what I thought to be love every lady thought less.

Ten years have passed, many fortune away
Every sixpence and more spent of whores of dames
And now my comfort’s only in the sea
Cause it’s all that I’ve found that’s as empty as me.

Then came the day when I fancied a brush
And soon found a parchment attuned to my touch
Now I travel the world to the tune of their awe
As they gasp and they gaze at the thieves of my heart.

I’ll paint you a portrait and sail for the sun
When asked of my job I reply I have none
I’m a student of fancy and scholar of whim
Ask where I go I’ll tell you where I’ve been.

I’m a student of fancy, a scholar of whim
Ask where I go I’ll tell you where I’ve been.
